Convent & Stuart Hall, Schools of the Sacred Heart

"The Convent & Stuart Hall community has worked hard to 'go green' and we appreciate the efforts and support of San Francisco Energy Watch."

-Jo Ann Shain, Communications Director
Convent & Stuart Hall - Schools of the Sacred Heart, SF

Founded in 1887 as an independent Catholic school, Schools of the Sacred Heart, San Francisco, carry on the educational mission of the Religious of the Sacred Heart. Over 1,000 students attend Convent & Stuart Hall, four single-sex schools — two elementary K-8 and two high schools 9-12. Schools of the Sacred Heart are among the oldest and largest independent schools in California and comprise the only Northern California schools to offer single-sex classroom education while maintaining a coed community.

Through the SF Energy Watch Program, the school’s administration replaced all fluorescent lamps and ballasts in all classrooms and offices of older buildings. A total of 360 CFL lamps were replaced and 628 linear fluorescent fixtures were retrofitted. Also, motion sensors were installed in bathrooms in order to use lighting only as needed.

The Department of the Environment assisted the administration by identifying energy savings opportunities at their two campuses, providing recommendations for upgrades, and facilitating their choice of a contractor working with the Program.

The conservation-minded faculty and student body at both Convent & Stuart Hall campuses were thrilled about participating in San Francisco Energy Watch.
